Lumen Technologies' Black Lotus Labs says the China-linked Volt Typhoon espionage group has relied on a hidden proxy network called Silent Train, built from rotating chains of hacked SOHO routers, IoT devices, and enterprise gear dating back to late 2023. Researchers tie this infrastructure to four separate zero-day exploitation campaigns that gave the group stealthy, hard-to-trace access to high-value targets. The rotating nature of the network has made Volt Typhoon's intrusions especially difficult to attribute and shut down.
